Content: Informal squatting in Peru is produced by internal migration to urban areas, lack of affordable housing, ineffective governance, racism and centralism. Usually called tugurios, although residents prefer the term solares, these are housing blocks that correspond to 25 percent of Lima's population, also called slum areas. The dominant class continues to call this phenomenon invasions, a term normally used for military operations or extraterrestrial visitors.
