The reality is focused on the survival of 24 participants on an island (Bocas del toro Panama) further divided into 3 teams of 8 people, which are grouped according to their age or generation. Teams according to their generation are called: Pelados (18-25 years old) Cuchachos (26-38 years old) and Catanos (39-49 years old) who compete as a group in the first stage of the game against other teams.

This season each region has six participants. Four regions will be disintegrated in the initial stage. Representatives will continue in these regions are chosen by individual competition rather than election by the group, as in the two previous editions. This time every two representatives from each region deleted, plus an additional participant selected among all participants who had been eliminated in the individual competition. This edition featured three speakers instead of two, as usual. The slabs were removed for security reasons and were replaced by caves. The team of migrants will not be in this edition and will be replaced by the Challengers team, consisting of participants residing in regions of Colombia than those who took part in previous editions. This year they integrated five participants from previous challenges, one for each of the traditional regions of the challenge, competing for three additional quotas.

Social classes, generations, regions of the country and the degree of popularity are the elements used to give identity to these groups. Another one of the characteristics of the Challenge and which encloses the success of this format is that the conditions of life in this competition are not fair. While a group spends its day in a beach house with servants, exquisite delicacies (High Beach), the other group suffers the complete lack of accommodation and food (Low Beach). In this reality, as in real life, the teams would be able to exceed or fall on their comfort levels, depending on the performance in the territorial Challenges.
